¿Need Services on Demand?

There Now Exists an App for this with HALLO

When Jan Reese Rondina and his husband Alan Burke moved to Puerto Rico from Chicago in 2017, they found it difficult to find people to provide services to settle in their new home.

Months later, the situation worsened with the passage of Hurricane Maria through the country. “When we arrived at the San Juan airport, we thought a hurricane was as bad as a storm in Chicago. Clearly, we were wrong.

Despite how horrible that experience was, we appreciated having gone through that, because it gave us a better perspective on issues that needed to be resolved on the island, ”said Rondina.

At the same time, they saw that job opportunities were scarce in the country. They met people who, in effect, were looking for others to provide them with services and generate an income, " so we decided to create a self-sharing job market that serves two directions," he said.

Through Generation 3 of Pre18, an incubator program of the local organization Parallel 18Parallel18 - Rondina and Burke launch HALLO in Puerto Rico on a beta basis earlier this year to offer an alternative for additional income, while allowing us to connect with experts safely and instantly.

HALLO is, essentially, a solution to a prevalent problem in Puerto Rico of finding service providers in a reliable way. The creation of this platform is in some way to be able to reciprocate all the help we have received in Puerto Rico and to make a difference in the place we now call our home, ”added Rondina.

How Does it Work?

HALLO's business model is what is known as “peer-to-peer”, where it connects consumers directly to providers (“helpers”) through a digital platform. Basically, in the same way that you request a ride on Über directly from your cell phone - without having to call a taxi company, HALLO also allows you to find someone who can help you with the move, take care of the dog or clean your home easily and safely.

Initially available for the San Juan metro to Dorado area, HALLO has two apps that work together: HALLO for consumers and HALLO Helper for providers. Cleverly designed to be self-explanatory and easy to use, users can find a variety of categories from pet and home services to auto and beauty services.

Just as AirBNB allows you to choose from a variety of accommodations based on what you are looking for and based on testimonials from past guests, HALLO allows you to choose from a variety of providers by category.

Once the user finds the professional he is looking for, he contacts him directly and coordinates the service. At the end of it, the client evaluates his experience with the provider, awarding him a rating, and makes his payment through the application. The latter adds a security value to the process, since there is no money handling.

When a HALLO user initially Requests the provider, the provider has the option of accepting or rejecting that request, allowing the provider to work under their own conditions and time availability. After the service is completed, the provider receives their direct payment into their bank account and you can give the user a rating, based on their experience serving you, in the same way that you receive yours which will then be displayed on your profile.
